The 10 Luscious Laws of Pleasurable Weight Loss

To support you slimming down with femininity, ease and grace this year I want to introduce you to what I call the Luscious Laws of Pleasurable Weight Loss.

They’re not your typical rules or restrictive regulations, you’d find in a diet book or your average women’s magazine. These are the rules that will shift your life towards pleasureand towards slimmingsimultaneously. As it turns out, pleasure and slimming are meant to go intimately together, and these rules are going to show you just how, and why.

As you read on and discover these 10 Luscious Laws, be prepared to leave behind  your expectations of what slimming down is supposed to look like, and welcome a new, liberating attitude that’s enlightening in every sense of the word.

The 10 Luscious Laws of Pleasurable Weight Loss

1. Thou shall know that thy body is a sacred, living, feeling female animal.

Your body is not just an inanimate object that needs to be manipulated into a smaller size. It, or rather she, is a living, breathing animal – one with her own intelligence, instincts and life force, who has ingeniously evolved over the passage of time.

Your body deserves your respect, attention and reverence, just as your thinking mind does. Always remember that your “wild” animal intelligence and wisdom is just as valuable as your mind’s.

2. Thou shalt not diet.

Restricting and obsessively monitoring your food in any way will only make you cranky, angry and unsatisfied. It will also set you up to overeat, binge and then feel terrible, in a vicious and gnarly little cycle – one that actually works against your slimming down.

Drop the idea that dieting will help you get slender, and pay more attention to eating what your body truly desires to feel her best. If you are afraid of honoring your body’s desire for food, check out commandment #3.

3. Thou shall listen to thy body’s slimming messages.

Your highly evolved body already knows what to eat, how much to eat, and how to exercise, in order to slim down to your healthiest size. If you consistently listen to her messages, your female body will not steer you wrong.

She’s not out to make you overeat. Your body is your greatest ally in slimming down. Listen to her wisdom, and you’ll find that what she craves is healthy, light and nourishing food – not high fat, low-quality food.

4. Honor all the living foods that come from the earth.

Fill your cupboards with the healthy, radiant food that come from the earth! You’ll never need to calorie-count sweet potatoes, avocados and almonds, because Mother Earth made natural foods to be nutrient-rich and healthy so that eating well could be a simple matter. Prioritize the produce aisle in your shopping and cooking, and watch your body respond with reduced cravings, more energy, and easier weight loss.

5. Thou shalt not do boring, punishing exercises.

Boring, punishing exercises put your body, mind and emotions in a stressed state. Stress causes your body to produce increased amounts of cortisol and insulin, which trigger physiological commands to hold on to fat, stop producing muscle and put a stop to optimum digestion. Need I say more here? Reach for pleasurable movement, such as dance, yoga, bellydancing, hoolahooping, or NIA.

6. Remember thy pleasure, and keep it sacred.

Although this culture claims that pleasure is frivolous, a waste of time and only for hard-earned vacations, pleasure is actually the #1 ingredient nature requires you to have, in order to flourish through your physical, emotional and spiritual life.

There is nothing trivial about pleasure – it helps you learn well, live beautifully and slim down effectively. Keep pleasure sacred in your life, a priority, not an after-thought.

7. Thou shalt not burden thyself with baggage.

Whenever your mind and surroundings are sluggish and heavy, your body feels it – and acts accordingly. If you’re surrounding yourself with baggage of any kind (unfulfilling relationships, heavy job activities, draining people, etc.) your body will mimic this environment by slowing down her own metabolic functions.

Your body is your mirror, and she yearns to reflect the beauty of your world. Take active steps to release the burdens in your life, and let your body reflect the “lightness” of your being!

8. Thou shall seek pleasurable community.

One lonely, single Egyptian didn’t build the pyramids – it took a whole team. They had the same intention, same willpower and same desire in their hearts.

Aligning yourself with like-minded women who are also using pleasure to slim down is a powerful force – one that will multiply your strength, persistence, and of course, your slimming results!

9. Thou shall prioritize thy pleasure in times of craziness.

Make no excuses for dropping your pleasure! Especially when stress is high–when your family is in town, work deadlines are looming, or you are especially exhausted by your (insert most annoying person or situation here)–is when you need to double, triple and quadruple up on pleasure.

Repeat after me: pleasure is slimming, pleasure is slimming…

10. Thou shalt shaketh thy booty.

Never underestimate the power of shaking your butt, hips and thighs. Like my wonderful colleague Theresa Stevens would say, shaking your hips and booty is an art form. This is the “pleasure center” of your female body, and shaking this area feels really good at any age.

Shake your hips, often and with gusto, to enhance your pleasure. There are also many creative ways to move your “pleasure center,” which I will leave up to you to imagine for today.

Darling, this completes the 10 Luscious Laws of Pleasurable Weight Loss. You can print these out and post them on your fridge or your bulletin board. Staying focused on these laws will inspire you to keep on the path of pleasure, even when the television, radio and billboards persist with their non-stop babble about the opposite, restrictive behaviors.

Once you have seen the light of the feminine approach, don’t be swayed back to the old-school, punishing approach. Remember to stay focused on your *true* pleasure, and you’ll always be on track.

  1. Dear Jena la Flamme, thank you once again, for another beautifully written and insightful post! You are amazing and it truly shines through that this is a gift that you have to share with us womyn stuck in unnecessary battles with ourselves.
I have started saving a little bit of money this month, and every month until I am able to take your home course, I am excited and looking forward to the day!

  2. hi pleasure seekers, I just want to say as far as exercise goes, walking is seriously under rated! if you can’t do anything exotic or feel it’s just too much of an effort, 30-60 mins of walking 4-5 times a week is of huge benefit! it not only burns calories, lowers your blood sugar, & improves depression all that the research shows but it is very practical!! & let’s face it, keep it simple, not interupt your lifestyle! I really don’t have time to ponder the universe with time consuming projects on myself! I want to get on with life with full enjoyment but not centered on myself so much!! I do enough ‘me’ with this weight struggle daily!! I also have been reminded that being overweight makes me more susceptable to various cancers! that is nasty. I certainly want to keep that risk as low as possible. be good to yourself, eat quality food for a quality life!
    best wishes, nancy x

  3. My favorite declaration is the “Thou shalt not do boring, punishing exercises.” Really taking this to heart has meant saying no to yoga (which is supposed to be good for you – but ends up pushing me way beyond what I can handle). It has meant being continually curious about what kind of movement might be fun, even if I’ve never tried it before. It has me thinking about the opposite – what would be interesting, enjoyable and leave me feeling more connected to my body, not less. This idea has me taking “Beauty Walks” which elicit a feeling of adventure and exploration, both inside and out, in my search for more beauty. Thanks for the post Jena.

  4. I love all of these Laws! I do, in particular, like numbers 4, 5, and 10, mostly because I despise the gym and adore dancing. My husband keeps asking me why hula is so important to me; aside from the cultural and spiritual connections, I spend at least 3 hours a week shaking my hips from side to side!

    Love this list, Jena.

  5. I need to start following these rules. Love them need to find a great place in Calgary that uses pleasure for weight loss. I also need to find a great dance place as well.

  6. I could relate to #8 and #10. The times that I have gone on a “diet” and I was somewhat successful, were when I did it with a friend. This goes for exercise too. I find that I need a buddy system. It is moral support. Kind of like well if she can do this, so can I. The idea of moving my hips is a good one for me because I like to dance when I hear music and I love sex (which I wish was more often and may be part of the reason I have weight issues). But now that I have lost a nice body shape I don’t feel as feminine so I am not as inclined to want to do the horizontal mambo. I hope to get back to feeling sexy again someday.
