Take Charge of Your Pleasure to Slim Down Naturally: A 3-Step Guide

Ready, Aim, Pleasure!

At a time when I’d been struggling with compulsive eating for ten years, what allowed me to really turn a corner in my weight loss journey, was the realization that my body is literally an animal.

I came to understand that for this warm-blooded, furry creature that is my body, pleasure isn’t a choice, it’s an instinct, and furthermore it’s a biological requirement.

When I came to understand that, what I now affectionately call my “female animal,” has evolved through the passage of time through the intelligence of the compass of seeking pleasure and avoiding pain, suddenly I came to see my habits of over-eating in a new light.

I finally realized, if you’re lacking natural pleasures and enjoyment in your life,
your body will demand she receives her fill of pleasure… through food! (And if necessary, lots of it.)

Your female body loves pleasure, as it helps “her” perform all of her physiological functions at her best.

She also loves pleasure because it causes her to produce the “pleasure chemistry.”

Your “pleasure chemistry” is a sassy little mix of chemicals that cause your body to produce the perfect recipe for slimming down by making CCK (the hunger-soothing hormone), metabolizing fat (to use it ideally) and digesting like a lean, mean slimming machine.

In order to sooth any pleasure-deprived cravings and attain your ideal size, you’ve got to take charge of your pleasure! Otherwise, your body will keep requesting bigger and bigger amounts of food, in order to fill her inherent desire for pleasure.

Now listen up:

In order for you to really take charge of your pleasure, I have some pointers for you.

You’re invited to dig into my 3-step guide to taking charge of your pleasure, so you can learn how to produce slimming feelings of relaxation and ease.

3-Step Guide to Taking Charge of Your Pleasure

Step #1: Tap into Your Natural Aliveness.

There is a simple pleasure in the sensation of being alive, and it’s one you probably don’t pay attention to very often.

A great time to get in touch with the sheer bliss of being alive is after stretching. If you take a moment to just lay on the ground, after some stretchy moves, you may sense a bubbly, tingling, all-over feeling. I call it, “the champagne sensation,” and it feels ecstatic.

This omnipresent, pulsing sensation is your instinctive self, bubbling with natural, primal life – and it is there for you always.

Simply by intending to notice it, you will begin to grow more aware of this tingling, inner rhythm of your being.

Step #2: Calm Your Critic!

Girl, the voice of criticism is very strong in our culture. It says crap like, “you are not good enough, not tall enough, not thin enough, fat enough, rich enough, etc.”

It can really have a really depressing effect on you, unless you raise your awareness, get really present and intensely focused on what is working beautifully in your life.

Ever heard of gratitude? A great way to calm your inner critic is to ferociously make a daily written list of gratitudes. Especially when you don’t feel like it!

Consistently celebrate your goodness
, and calm your negative critic’s gnarliness – your pleasure chemistry depends on it!

Step #3: Train Your Brain.

Here’s a goodie: Whatever you focus on, grows.

In other words, whatever you think about over and over: that is what expands in your life.

If you train your brain to look at what’s going wrong… that thing will feel increasingly awful and unbearable!

If you train your brain to look at what’s going great in your life, that will start to expand, and you’ll notice it more… because you kept looking for it!

Dear sister, the most important takeaway is this: regardless of whether you are Training Your Brain, Calming Your Critic or Tapping into Your Natural Aliveness, only YOU have the power to take charge of your pleasure, and to ride that pony in the direction of your weight loss desires.

Tell me this:

  1. Which step above can you see yourself taking charge of this week?
  2. What beautiful thing about your life are you grateful for?

Infinite amounts of pleasure are available for you, with all the slimming powers pleasure brings. It is at your fingertipsshould you dare to reach for it.

Thank you for reading these 3 bits of take-charge wisdom; I look forward to hearing your yummy thoughts in the comments.

  1. Great post, wise Jena. Thank you.

This week I am going to focus on tapping into my natural aliveness as much as possible and how my body feels in the moments of just being.

I have been unexpectedly overwhelmed by gratitude lately, so my inner critic has been so incredibly dormant that I sometimes forget she’s there. This month has been all about self-care and companionship — since I am at the end of a difficult living situation — and the Universe handed me what I needed ten-fold. Some new folk found their way into my life, and so quickly into my heart, that the world is seeming to glimmer. Everything has been showing up in this beautiful hue of gratitude and I feel like I’m wanting to make love to the whole world.

Due to my excitement, however, I have noticed that I sometimes forget about paying attention to my sweet, beautiful animal. While I’m not using food as any crutch, I can’t forget to pay attention to the sexy being in which I exist. So, yes, natural aliveness is my focus.

Thanks for the post, Jena. Lovely lovely lovely 🙂

  2. Hi Jena,

    Wow what great wisdom.

I am going to do the stretchy goal, and feel gratitude for feeling that life, I am going to tell myself that I approve of myself, I approve of my tingling body, and that I accept my beautiful body and my life completely. I am going to focus on this gratefulness during the week to increase it in my sub and consciousness.

    Many thanks Jena
